Beautiful Response To An Ugly Offer From a Known Bigot

"The Catholic League's Bill Donohue, pit bull of the Catholic Church in America and a man who now seems completely out of touch with his own pope, is furious that Guinness beer opted for diversity rather than bigotry when the company decided to pull out as a sponsor of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City this year. Donohue has now called for a Catholic boycott of Guinness beer (we'll get to that in a minute), and yesterday he also applied to the NYC Pride march committee to march this June in the parade under a banner that reads, "Straight Is Great," and the committee has agreed to let him march. I say: Bring it on! Let's let Bill Donohue march in the parade and show that we are better than those troglodytes who run the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York, increasingly out of touch with the world. Of course, the Pride parade is about LGBT pride, so perhaps Donohue has to tweak that banner a bit to say, "Straights Who Support Gays Are Great," or "Catholics Who Support Gays Are Great." After all, the LGBT people who want to march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade don't want to march under a banner that says, "Gay Is Great." They want to celebrate Irish pride and being gay and would more likely have a banner that says, "Irish, Gay and Proud.""* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Anti-Gay Plan Backfires On Catholic League President

*Catholic League President Bill Donohue claimed he was forced to back out of his plan to participate in the New York City LGBT Pride parade because the event's organizers wanted to force him into "gay training." "Today, I informed Heritage of Pride officials that I objected to their rule requiring me to attend gay training sessions, or what they call 'information' sessions," Donohue was quoted as saying on Friday. "'I don't agree with your rule,' I said. They responded by saying that attendance was 'mandatory.'" As The New Civil Rights Movement reported, what Donohue is actually complaining about is a safety orientation meeting that is required for the heads of every organization taking part in the June 2 event...*

Atheists Insulted On Fox News Religion Panel

"It's Thursday on Fox's The Real Story, so you know what that means: Time to bust out the jokey "an atheist, a Jew, and a Christian walk into a bar Fox" lede graf. This time, Gretchen Carlson's religion panel went head-to-head-to-head over an organization's billboard declaring there to be no afterlife. The billboard in question, sponsored by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, reads: "Enjoy Life Now. There Is No Afterlife." American Atheists president David Silverman unequivocally praised the message as "the truth" and one that encourages people to pass a "good legacy" onto their children. "Take care of your fellow man because God is not going to do it," he added. In return, Catholic League president Bill Donohue took the opportunity to stab at Silverman's brainpower...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Bill Donohue vs. Frosty The Snowman

A politically correct West Village YMCA has fired Ol' St. Nick in favor of Frosty.

Kids who once thrilled at sitting on Santa's lap at the 14th Street McBurney YMCA's wildly popular annual holiday luncheon will now suffer the icy embrace of a talking snowman and his sidekick, an anonymous penguin, at today's event.

Forget about bringing a list or checking it twice -- Frosty doesn't take gift requests, and doesn't care if you're naughty or nice.

YMCA officials, who say they are in the midst of "rebranding" the Young Men's Christian Association to "The Y," defended their decision.

"It wasn't replacing; it was transitioning," said John Rappaport, executive director of the McBurney YMCA. "We realized that change is sometimes good, and that Frosty is a great winter character who would appeal to a broader number of kids."

The decision to ditch Father Christmas came down from McBurney branch administration, not the Y's Chicago headquarters.

A chilly reception greeted the news that the YMCA -- an organization founded to spread Christian values in 1844 -- was replacing the Christmas icon with a secular cartoon character.

"Christmas is not about Jack Frost; it's not about snowmen," fumed Bill Donohue of the Catholic League. "We're not talking about some secular organization that has no religious roots. If they can't celebrate Christmas, then they should check out. What a bunch of cowards."

"Santa belongs to all the people," added Ed Bobrow, who has played Santa at Central Park's Belvedere Castle for years. "He represents openness and an invitation for anyone and everyone to celebrate good will toward man."

Bobrow, who is Jewish, says it's the kids who will miss out. "Try to see it through the eyes of the children," he said.

"It's sad that people are so offended by a man in a red suit," said Taylor Patterson, an 18-year-old member of the McBurney Y. "It's not a Christian thing. It is the spirit of the holiday that counts. I think the Y is well intended, but misguided."

Director Rappaport offered an olive branch to critics, insisting that everyone is welcome today -- even "Santa . . . if he's in town."

Bill Donahue on Penn & Tellers Bullshit about Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa and her organization provided substandard care for patients, and were primarily interested in converting the dying to Catholicism. At the same time, Teresa received large sums in donations, the amount or destination of which has not been revealed. These donations have been transferred to Catholic missionary programs elsewhere, rather than being spent on improving the standard of healthcare. Furthermore, Teresa's relationships with some donors and political figures have been a source of controversy. Yet still many Christians claim her to be a saint.
